I can find no reference for Mr. Conway’s observation on the placing of the national colours

Dear Editor,

I write in response to a litter written by Mr. Clinton Conway, (Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police) in the Stabroek News dated Thursday January 19, 2023, titled “The National Colours were Displayed Upside Down”.

The Golden Arrowhead is a triangle with five colours beginning with Green at the top followed by White, Yellow, Black and Red in the center. In displaying the colours, we can begin with Green and end with Red or begin with Red and end with Green using all five colours in the order in which they fall. I have searched all the protocol books I can find, consulted protocol officers and even placed a call to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to find a reference or authority for .Mr. Conway’s assertions, but could find none.

What I believe Mr. Conway wanted to say was that it is customary to have Red at the top and the Green at the bottom; however, there is no document that speaks to this practice. I thank Mr. Conway for his observation and would humbly request for our edification that he to point us in the direction of his reference material.

Sincerely,

Earl Edghill
