The Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation (DHBC) along with Guyanese Manganese Incorporated (GMI) can now train persons in their companies’ respective trades as they collected their certificates of Masters of Apprenticeship from the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) which operates under the umbrella of the Ministry of Labour.

DHBC General Manager, Wayne Watson, along with a representative of GMI, collected their certificates on Friday on behalf of their respective companies from Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton, in the presence of BIT’s Acting Chief Executive Officer/Secretary Saskia Eastman-Onwuzirike at the ministry’s boardroom

The certificates which now license the companies as two Masters Apprenticeship Training Centres, enable them to accept and teach apprentices the main skills of their companies. During the course of the training, both the apprentices and the companies will be guided by BIT.

According to a BIT Facebook post,  Hamilton while handing over the certificates, “spoke about the importance of the Board of Industrial Training’s apprenticeship programme and how it will enhance the skill sets of many ambitious individuals. This includes increasing the number of people trained to work in the country’s labour force. He advised them to teach as many women as possible to work in male-dominated areas.”

Hamilton further said that persons who wish to become licensed welders could also attend nighttime training classes at the two centres.
