Amsterdam, Fernandes crowned Sportsman, Sportswoman-of-the-Year

Standout boxer, Desmond Amsterdam, and squash queen, Nicolette Fernandes, were named the National Sports Commission (NSC) Sportsman and Sportswoman for the 2021/2022 period under review. 

The pair earned the coveted awards last evening when the National Awards returned to the ornate splendor of the National Cultural Centre. 

Cricketer, Tagnarine Chanderpaul and IFBB Elite Pro, Rosanna Fung, were the runners-up in the respective categories.

Chanderpaul and Fernandes were unavoidably absent and their trophies were presented to president of the Everest Cricket Club, Manzoor Nadir and vice-president of the Guyana Squash Association, David Fernandes. 

Middle distance maestro, Attoya Harvey and Squash ace, Shomari Wiltshire earned the junior female and junior male trophies.

For his exploits in Sports Journalism (Print), Stabroek News’ Duncan Saul was adjudged the winner in the category.
