As part of its objective to promote the new British Airways service and inaugural flight between St. Lucia and Guyana slated for March 27th, the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority [SLTA] has praised Guyanese for their feedback during a six-day sales mission here.

In an interview with Stabroek News, the SLTA’s Public Relations Officer, Gerain Georges noted that British Airways’ new service will operate on Mondays and Thursdays beginning from London to destination Guyana via St. Lucia. “…the service will operate on Mondays and Thursdays where the first flight will be from London to Saint Lucia to Guyana and then from Guyana to Saint Lucia and then back to London…the service serves as another option to the destination alongside Caribbean Airlines and InterCaribbean,” said Georges.

In their efforts to highlight the advantages of the new British Airways route, and also to promote their country as a preferred tourist destination, the SLTA hosted the “Caribcation Saint Lucia” showcase from February 1st to February 6th at the Giftland and Amazonia Malls and Marriott Hotel where their various services were advertised. “The overall mission forms part of the authority’s strategy to increase tourism and promote Saint Lucia as a preferred tourist destination in partnership with the Guyana Tourism Authority.”

According to Georges, a strategy workshop involved travel advisors, diaspora leaders, CARICOM members along with marketing and promotional service providers who all managed to secure “on-the-spot” selling while persons were also able to secure their packages from various hotels in St. Lucia.

“The interactive showcase welcomed thousands of enthusiastic patrons who learned of Saint Lucia’s adventure, culinary, romance, wellness options and much more…visitors to the showcase were delighted to interact with and purchase on-the-spot packages from hotel partners like Stolentime, Bay Gardens Resorts and Harmony Marina Suites and engage with knowledgeable Guyanese-based travel agents who joined the showcase”, she said.

Georges added that one lucky visitor who attended the ‘Caribcation’ workshop at either of the three locations and whose information was taken, will win an all-expense paid five-night trip for two to the Bay Gardens Beach Resort in St. Lucia.
