A new president of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) will be elected on March 14 after that date was confirmed as the date for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Election of Office Bearers for the body.

This is according to one of the Vice Presidents of the body, Godfrey Monroe.

Monroe also told this publication yesterday that, “The date for the election has been set by the executive committee, the audited financial statements were sent out to the affiliates to peruse for questions and queries and so on.”

Monroe further disclosed that there will be a meeting today to ratify the audited statements and to table the Secretary General Report. “The meeting slated for today basically is for the council to ratify the audited statements and the Secretary General report for the period.”

Prior to the election, there will be the nominations of candidates to fill the vacancies within the GOA, The President, Three Vice Presidents, Treasurer, Secretary General, Assistant Secretary and Assistant Treasurer for the two-year cycle.

“The nomination process will close a week prior to the Elections on March 7” said Monroe.

It will be interesting to see whose names are thrown into the hat for the executive positions of one of the most important sporting bodies in the country.

The GOA’s umbrella bodies will soon determine in large part the direction sports locally will undertake for next few years and beyond as electoral elections of the GOA is imminent.
