Sinclair stranded on 92 as Berbice eye victory

Berbice are currently in the driving seat against Demerara heading into the final day of their first-round clash in the Guyana Cricket Board senior Inter-County four-day tournament.

At the National Stadium, Providence, after rain came down at 13.00 hours, Demerara closed the third day on 61 for three in their second innings, holding a mere 13-run lead after Berbice posted 330 all out in 93 overs replying to Demerara’s 282 all out in 94.5 overs in their first innings.

Sachin Singh is on 37 not out and Leon Johnson not out on one.

Matthew Nandu (three), Tevin Imlach (three) and Akshaya Persaud (one) are the batsmen dismissed.

Meanwhile, Junior Sinclair was left stranded on 92 after resuming from his overnight score of 84. He faced 145 balls and smashed four sixes along with nine fours. Sinclair was supported by his captain, Veerasammy Permaul who made 25, the pair adding 50 for the eighth wicket. With Nial Smith (24), Sinclair added 54 for the ninth wicket to provide a marginal lead at the bottom.

However, the second day had belonged to Kevlon Anderson who stroked a brilliant 106 from 194 balls to ensure Berbice got a lead after most batsmen struggled at Providence. He carved 13 boundaries and shared an 84-run stand for the seventh wicket with his Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club teammate, Sinclair, and 66 for the fifth wicket with another club mate in Kevin Sinclair (22).

Christopher Barnwell made a strong case for a first-class recall, taking 4-54 from 19 overs. He was supported by Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed who took 2-63 and Richie Looknauth with 2-68.

Meanwhile, in Demerara’s first innings, Looknauth top scored with 67 from 84 balls after hitting seven fours and three sixes. Looknauth added 54 for the last wicket with Qumar Torrington (six).

Imlach also got up to 62 from 182 balls with his innings highlighted by nine boundaries but no other batsman could convert their starts. Permaul took 4-59 while Kevin Sinclair and Junior Sinclair had two wickets each.
