Cocaine trafficking accused remanded

A man was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and plead not guilty to charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Jamal Blair of 186 James and Garnett Street was arrested on the February 27th last and taken to the Brickdam Police Station after he allegedly had in his possession 26.9 grams of cocaine and 478.3 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

According to the prosecutor, the narcotics were recovered as a result of a raid conducted by a party of police in Cooper Street Albouystown, Georgetown. At the said address, the police indicated to the defendant the reason for a search of his property to which he agreed.

During the search of Blair’s premises, the police retrieved a blue and green Puma haversack from under the defendant’s bed. Subsequently, the police recovered from the haversack a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, along with white substances suspected to be cocaine.

The defendant was told of the offence, cautioned and arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police Station, along with the narcotics that was weighted in his presence, which amounted to 478.3 grams of cannabis and 26.9 grams of cocaine. The narcotics were marked and placed into custody.

Blair was remanded after pleading not guilty and will return to court on March 29th.
