Teams face major changes heading into round two

As the Guyana Cricket Board’s senior Inter-County, four-day second round bowls off today, the four teams face major changes due to the West Indies Championship.

At Georgetown Cricket Club, a depleted Demerara will face the Select XI.

Christopher Barnwell will lead Demerara with Akshaya Persaud serving as his deputy. Returning from the first round are Raymond Perez, Ronaldo Alimohamed, Richie Looknauth, Ashmead Nedd, Steven Sankar, Qumar Torrington, Sachin Singh and Sachin Balgbobin.

Regular captain, Leon Johnson, along with Matthew Nandu and Tevin Imlach, are all part of the Guyana Harpy Eagles squad with Ushardeva Balgobin, Shamar Yearwood and Travis Persaud filling the spots opened.

The Select XI has not faced much changes with Rajendra Chandrika continuing to lead the squad. Zachary Jodah has been replaced by Oswin Blair.

Meanwhile, Berbice will take on Essequibo at Enmore Community Centre Cricket Club to see who will take the edge. Both teams recorded wins in the first round with Berbice beating Demerara by six wickets and Essequibo flattening Select XI by 271 runs.

Berbice has been affected the most by the Veerasammy Permaul, Kevin Sinclair, Kevlon Anderson, Anthony Bramble, Shamar Joseph and Nial Smith all on national duties.

Junior Sinclair will have his first go leading the senior side with a fairly inexperienced lineup. The side includes former national youth players, Javed Karim, Garfield Benjamin, Suresh Dhanai, Seon Hetmyer, Alex Algoo, Shamal Angel, Kwesi Mickle and Seon Glasgow. Sinclair’s older siblings, Jason and Keyon are also included with left-arm spinners, Nigel Deodat and Gourav Ramesh featuring.

For the Cinderella County of Essequibo, Anthony Adams, Keemo Paul, Ronsford Beaton and Kemol Savory will be unavailable.

Kevon Boodie takes over from Adams as captain while Gulcharan Chulai and Bruce Vincent have now earned places in the Essequibo side.
