Five Essequibo Coast men fined for DUI

Five men from the Essequibo Coast have been charged with the offence of driving under the influence of alcohol. They were fined $30,000 and their driver’s licences were endorsed.

According to police, the men charged were; Junior Norton, 25, of Reliance, Essequibo Coast; Dwayne Thompson, of Charity River Dam, Pomeroon; Shawn Rodrigues, of Lot 38 Richmond, Essequibo Coast; Mohan Persaud of Lot 47 Sparta, Essequibo Coast; and Whitney Thompson of Lot 985 Charity Squatting Area, Pomeroon.

The drivers were all charged on Wednesday for driving under the influence of alcohol.

They appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Esther Sam, where the charges were read to them.

They all pleaded guilty.

They were fined $30,000 or in default one month’s imprisonment and their drivers’ licences endorsed.
