A fire of unknown origin destroyed a one-storey wooden and concrete building at Lot 40, Second Avenue, Bartica, Region 7 on Sunday afternoon.

According to a release from the Guyana Fire Service [GFS], on Sunday last, at approximately 15:36 pm, the GFS was alerted to a fire and water tenders from the Bartica Fire Station were immediately dispatched. Upon arrival, fire-fighters observed a one-story wooden and concrete building, owned by  Bhagwanttie Rohit-Joseph, 57-years- old, and occupied by Bheesham Rohit, 31, and Camacy Hendricks, 25, engulfed in flames.

Fire-fighters were able to extinguish the flames, however, the building and household contents, including a motorcycle and boat engine belonging to Bheesham were completely destroyed. Two other buildings, located on the northern and southern sides of the burnt out building, suffered structural damage. Investigations are being conducted by the GFS to ascertain the cause of the fire.
