Fire destroys Reliance house

A fire of unknown origin completely destroyed a two-bedroom wooden house at Reliance, East Canje Berbice just around 8 am yesterday.

Krishna Bissoondyal, 46, attached to the Rose Hall Estate, told Stabroek News that he left home around 4.30 am and headed to work. He said around 8.35 am, while working in the backdam,  he received a phone call that his house was engulfed in flames.

“So I had to make arrangements and I come out and when I came out I see the building flat”, he said.

What was left after the fire

According to him, the two-bedroom house which he occupied alone was furnished with a bed, table, chairs and contained all of his personal documents. He said, “I have no idea what happen, I have no electricity there, I don’t cook there so I can’t say what transpired when I leave home everything was okay.”

Bissoondyal while contemplating his next move yesterday pleaded for assistance to rebuild a “small house” at the location. He can be contacted on the telephone number 615-0048. “I can’t say where I go live now”, he lamented.

Meanwhile, Divisional Fire Commander Acting, Carvil Williams yesterday said, that the New Amsterdam Fire Station received a call that a house was on fire in East Canje Berbice just around 8.30 am. He said, they immediately responded however a vehicle had already responded from the Rose Hall Estate.

He said they went into action to try to save  the building which was completely engulfed in flames.

According to Williams, based on the initial investigation it is suspected that the fire started in the bedroom located on the upper flat. However, he said, investigations were still ongoing so as to determine the cause of the fire.
