‘One Guyana’ Futsal to host playoff on Monday

Given the overwhelming support for the impending ‘One Guyana’ Futsal Championship, the tournament coordinators, the Kashif and Shanghai Organization, will conduct a one day qualification tournament on Monday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue from 18:00hrs.

This was disclosed by an official release from the organizers. The qualifiers will feature 12 teams competing in an elimination format, with the resulting victors advancing to the main draw of the tournament.

Thomas Land will oppose Foot Steppers in the first match, with the winner entering group A which contains Sparta Boss, Future Stars, and NA United.

Jetty Ballers and New Market Street will face-off for a place in group B alongside Gold is Money, Beterverwagting (BV) and Melanie.

Ramsay Clan will then oppose Paradise Invaders for a spot in group C with the Tiger Bay, McKenzie All-Stars and Pouderoyen Brothers. The final composition of group G which comprises Leopold Street, Showstoppers, and North East La Penitence will be decided following the end of the Kingston and Gold Shot encounter.

Festival City and Sophia will then battle for a place in group H beside Bent Street, Albouystown and Avocado Ballers. The final match of the evening will witness Vryheid’s Lust facing off against Timehri Ballers, with the winner advancing to Group F which features Stabroek Ballers, Wismar All-Stars and Bagotstown.

Presently, group C comprises Back Circle, Ven-Guy, Alexander Village and Kitty, while Group E contains together Road Warriors, Kitty Spanish, California Square and Ballers Empire.

The tournament, which will feature 18 playing dates, will commence on April 9th and conclude May 20th. It will feature 32 teams competing in a group-stage featuring eight pools of four. Upon the end of the group section, the top two finishers in each pool will advance to the knockout round.

The National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue will be utilised for the majority of the event, with the final penciled in for the National Park, Thomas Lands.

The winner of the tournament will pocket $1,000,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth place finishers will receive $500,000, $200,000, and $100,000 respectively. On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player of the event will receive a motorcycle.
