Wismar man chopped by former mining partner

A 43-year-old man of Wismar, Linden, is now in a serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after he was chopped by his associate following a misunderstanding at Quartzstone Backdam, Cuyuni River.

Injured is Dwayne Ward, a 43 year-old resident of Wismar, Linden.

A police press release said the victim explained that he and the suspect known as ‘Country’ or ‘Brother’,  worked in partnership in the Quartzstone Backdam but due to a misunderstanding, they severed their arrangement.

The victim further explained that he was in the vicinity of Linda’s Shop when the suspect called out to him but he ignored his call and continued walking. The suspect then approached him from behind and dealt him two chops with a cutlass. One connected to the left side of his face leaving a gaping wound and the other to his left middle finger. The suspect then fled.

Ward was assisted by public-spirited persons and was transported to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and admitted as a patient. He was later referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment. His condition is regarded as serious but stable. 

Ranks from Regional Division #7 have been dispatched to the scene as investigations continue.
