Grove miner killed at Quartzstone Landing

A miner was killed on Saturday following a misunderstanding between two men at Quartzstone Landing, Cuyuni River, Region Seven.

The deceased has been identified as Marlon Carter, 34, of Post Office Street, Grove, East Bank Demerara.

According to police they attended the scene at about 5.30 pm and found Carter’s body on the river bank, clad in a black and red pair of boxer briefs.

The body was examined by officers who observed lacerations to the head above the left ear, lacerations to the lower forearm and forehead, as well as burn marks to the chest area and an almost severed right ankle. The wounds were believed to have been inflicted by the suspect.

The police also informed that the suspect’s brother, who was present at the scene, handed over to the police a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off, purportedly belonging to the deceased. 

The body was taken to Bartica and thereafter the Memorial Funeral Parlour where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

The suspect’s brother who is wanted for rape and robbery and who is also before the court for a firearm possession charge, was taken in custody. Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.
