National under-19 pacer Bruce Vincent bagged five wickets including a hat-trick as Essequibo gained their first win as the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Government of Guyana (GOG) and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) sponsored, U-19 Inter-County Super-50 tournament continued Friday with second round matches.
At the Everest Cricket Club ground, camp Road, Essequibo defeated the Select XI by 96 runs.
Batting first Essequibo made 148 all out off 40 overs after winning the toss.
Ronaldo Schouten top scored with 24 while Nityanand Mathura (2-10), Rashad Gaffur (2-14) and Mathew Pottoya (2-37) were the main bowlers for the GCB Select XI.
Chasing 149 for victory the GCB Select XI were dismissed for 52 off only 20.2 overs.
The select XI batsmen had no answer to pacer Bruce Vincent whose 5-20 from five overs included a hat-trick.
He received support from Aryan Persaud who captured four wickets for a solitary run (4-1) off 5.2 overs and included four maiden overs.
Kevin Kisten top-scored for the GCB Select XI with 19.
At the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda, the match was reduced to a 30-overs-a-side due to morning showers. Berbice won the toss and decided to bat making 120-8 off their allotted 30 overs. Rampertab Ramnauth top-scored with 29.
Mavindra Dindyal led Demerara’s bowling with 2-17 off three overs.
Demerara, in reply, were dismissed for 108 despite an entertaining 40 from talented national under-19 batsman Shamar Yearwood.
Salim Khan (3-17), including the prized wicket of the in-form Dindyal for just one, and Zeynul Ramsammy (3-24) were the pick of the Berbice bowlers.
The GCB/GOG/MCYS Under-19 Inter-County Super-50 Tournament will continue today with the third and final round.
Demerara will play Essequibo at Everest and Berbice will oppose the GCB Select XI at Enmore. Live streaming will be available for the Everest encounter on the GCB Facebook page.
