Burrowes is new president of cycling federation

Horace Burrowes defeated Linden Dowdrige to become the new president of the Guyana Cycling Federation following its annual general meeting Friday at the National Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue.

Elected vice presidents were Enzo Matthews, Paul Choo-Wee-Nam and Nigel London.

The secretary is Carina Westford and her assistant is Maria Leung.

William Howard is the treasurer and his assistant is Kwame Ridley.

The Racing Secretary is Sean Chin Chan with Terry Hodge as his assistant.

According to reports, Burrowes and Dowdridge tied with the same amount of votes in the first instance and Burrowes won by one vote the second time around.

Among the plans of the new executive are the staging of the National Sports Commission (NSC) annual three-stage event which is scheduled for May 13-14 and the National Championships billed for June.

This is Burrowes’ second stint as president of the GCF. He was first elected to the helm of the association in 2015 when he defeated Cheryl Thompson by one vote.
