Two officers, one each from the Guyana Defence Force and the Guyana Police Force have been granted scholarships under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme.

 According to a release from the office of the Indian High Commission to Guyana the recipients are Lieutenant Neil McDonald of the GDF and Jermain Johnson of the Guyana Police Force. 

The release said Lieutenant Mc Donald of the Coast Guard will spend seven months completing the Long Navigation Course at the Navigation and Direction School, Naval Base Kochi Keraral.

Officer Johnson, an ICT officer of the Guyana Police Force, will participating in a five-day course on Cyber Security and Investigation at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad.

Both officers met with High Commis-sioner Dr KJ Srinivasa who briefed them about the courses and advised them on the details and logistics. He also congratulated them and advised them to make the best of the opportunity.

According to the release, the Govern-ment of India continues to strengthen its bond with Guyana, by offering several scholarships in various areas including military, medical, technical, and cultural training. This is the second successive year that Guyana has access to these military training programmes.

Under the ITEC Programme, the Government of India covers all expenses related to training.
