Outpatient facility launched at Port Mourant Hospital

An Outpatient facility valued over $40 million was yesterday commissioned at the Port Mourant Hospital, Region Six.

A release from the Ministry of Health  said that the idea was conceptualised with the sole purpose to alleviate waiting time.

Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony said that the facility forms part of the government’s aim to ensure that Guyanese receive the best possible care in a timely manner.

Meanwhile, Regional Health Officer (RHO), Dr Vishalya Sharma said  that the department will help the hospital to better capture its data and guide regional policies, and resources.

Earlier, Dr Anthony handed over two ultrasound machines to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital and Mibicuri Cottage Hospital valued at approximately $7m.

Also  handed over were seven critical care beds which will be placed at various health facilities across Region 6 (East Berbice-Corentyne).

The Minister said the ultrasound machines which were purchased under the Government of Guyana funds are part of the Ministry’s plans to improve access to medical imaging across the region.

Sharma said that the region has recorded a 30% increase in the number of ultrasounds done within the last two years. In 2021, 10, 341 were performed followed by 14, 036 in 2022.
