Miner shot in Albouystown

Police are investigating a shooting incident that left a 27-year-old miner, Kerol Atthon, of Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara, hospitalised with a gunshot injury to his left thigh.

The police said that the shooting took place on Tuesday at about 16.40 hours at Sussex Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, and was carried out by two identifiable males, one armed with a gun.

Enquiries revealed that on the day in question, the victim, his wife, and his one-year-old son went to a photo studio at Sussex Street to do a photo shoot for his son’s birthday. Upon arrival, Atthon parked his car and left on foot to purchase some beverages for his family, walking in a southerly direction along Sussex Street. Upon returning, he was approached by two men. The one who was armed discharged a round in his direction, causing him to suffer injuries to his left thigh.

The two suspects then escaped south into Albouystown. Atthon was taken to the Woodlands Hospital by public-spirited citizens, but was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he’s currently a patient and said to be in a stable condition.
