An Albouystown man who broke into a Brickdam house on Monday night was fatally stabbed during a confrontation with one of the occupants.

Dead is Christopher Gonsalves, 31, called ‘White Boy’ of Lot 291 Independence Boulevard, Albouystown Georgetown.

Police say the incident occurred on Monday at about 11.04 pm at a property located at Chalmers Place and Brickdam, Stabroek, Georgetown.

According to the police report one of the two occupants explained that he was watching television when he was alerted by a scream coming from a bedroom which caused him to investigate. He then confronted Gonsalves in the kitchen and a scuffle ensued. Gonsalves was armed with a knife and dealt him a stab to his chest causing him to collapse.

The other occupant explained that he had returned home and as he entered the house, he saw his colleague lying on the kitchen floor and Gonsalves standing over him with a knife. This prompted him to also arm himself with a knife. Gonsalves subsequently rushed at him and a scuffle ensued during which he stabbed Gonsalves to his upper right shoulder, lower left abdomen, and thrice to his back, causing him to collapse on the kitchen floor.

The occupant of the house then raised an alarm and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) from the Alberttown Fire Service responded.  Gonsalves was examined and pronounced dead by a doctor. The body was taken to the Memorial Funeral Home, and is awaiting a post mortem examination.

One of the occupants of the house sustained injuries to his upper chest, left and right index finger and right arm, while the other suffered injuries to his right knuckles.  They were taken to the GPHC by the EMTs, where they are presently receiving medical attention under police guard. Investigations continue.

In March of last year Gonsalves was sentenced to eight months imprisonment for break and enter and larceny.
