Cyclist dies after hit by car on Hydronie Public Road

Police are currently investigating an accident that claimed the life of a 45-year-old pedal cyclist, Lloyd Garraway.

The accident occurred on Monday at about 0240 hours on the Hydronie Public Road, East Bank Essequibo. According to the police, the accident involved motorcar, PAD 3432, owned and driven by 21-year-old David Isaacs of Lot 486 Peter Street, Parika, East Bank Essequibo and Garraway of Lot 1801 Parika, East Bank Essequibo.

Inquiries revealed that the car was speeding south along the public road when it collided with the pedal cyclist who was riding across the road at the time. After being hit, Garraway fell on the road with injuries about his body. He was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital.

The report stated that the pedal cyclist eventually regained consciousness and was admitted to the hospital. However, at about 09.50 hours yesterday, Garraway succumbed to his injuries whilst receiving medical attention.

A breath analysis test was done on the driver of the motorcar but no trace of alcohol was found. However, he has been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
