Powerlifting federation now an affiliate of GOA

The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) has been granted full membership and affiliation to the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA).

This is according to a release disseminated to the media recently by the GOA.

According to the release, during a recent Council Meeting of the association, it was unanimously agreed that after the re-submission of complete documents, the federation was “deemed fully affiliated to the GOA with full affiliate status.”

The news augurs well for the Franklin Wilson-led federation and it athletes.

Following the announcement, a sponsorship cheque was presented to Wilson to help offset expenses for the two-member team of Carlos Petterson-Grifith and Gordon Spencer who represented Guyana at the World Classic Powerlifting Championships which was staged from June 11-18 in Malta. 

Petterson-Grifith, lifting in the 93kg class, finished sixth overall with a total of 847.5kg but twice stepped on the podium after finishing second in the deadlift (355kg) and third in the squat (320kg).

Spencer, a Category 2 Referee, also functioned as Manager/Coach of the outfit.

The release also stated  that during the handing over ceremony at Olympic House, President of the GOA, Godfrey Munroe, posited that it association was pleased to support to its members.
