Possessing an unrivalled profile and visibility in the local sports marketplace, MVP Sports has added the burgeoning discipline of Mixed Martial Arts to its expanding portfolio, as it threw its financial support behind the Guyana Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GMMAF).

This was disclosed during a brief interview with proprietor Ian Ramdeo. The avid sports enthusiast disclosed, “MVP Sports backs the efforts of the Guyana Mixed Martial Arts Federation to grow the sport of mixed martial arts in Guyana. We assist all sports when there is a need and when we are in a position to do so. It has consistently been our mission to assist local athletes. We have backed boxing and one of our ambassadors is a boxer.”

According to Ramdeo, the addition of discipline to the company’s assortment was predicated on the projected growth and development on the local landscape and in the region, as MMA is the fastest-growing sport globally.

He explained, “Because the sport of MMA in Guyana has considerable potential for expansion in terms of popularity, participation, and fans, MVP Sports should explore a long-term investment. Factors such as rising interest, steady talent pool growth, and the possibility of hosting international competitions might all help to make a long-term plan viable.”

However, Ramdeo conceded that the future viability of the discipline encompasses several factors detached from the partnership with the corporate entity including “infrastructure, coaching, training facilities, and financial sources.”

Nevertheless, Ramdeo opined that the sport aligns with the general objectives of the company, noting, “MVP Sports thinks that promoting MMA is consistent with its overall goals and vision.  When you consider how mixed martial arts (MMA) fits into their overall plan to promote other sports and support local athletes, you may see a long-term commitment. The possible influence on the organization’s brand, reputation, and ultimate objectives should be considered.”

He further affirmed that additional partnerships are required for the long-term growth and eventual sustainability of the sport, noting, “It is critical to assess the availability of collaboration and partnership options within the Guyana MMA community. If other organizations, sponsors, or stakeholders are dedicated to the long-term growth of MMA, it may bolster MVP Sports’ argument for a continued commitment. Finally, the choice to make a long-term investment or plan to promote MMA in Guyana will be based on a detailed study of these elements as well as the organization’s estimate of the sport’s potential in the country.”
