Motorcyclist dies in accident on Mandela Avenue

The police are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the life of twenty-six-year-old Joshua Blackett of Lot 568 Toucan Drive, South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown.

A police report stated that about 10 on Thursday night, Blackett was riding motorcycle CL 9706, with eighteen-year-old Natasha McKenzie of Kisskadee Drive, South Ruimveldt Gardens, as the pillion rider, on Mandela Avenue in the vicinity of Space Gym .

The driver of motor vehicle, PNN 9458, who was identified as forty-year-old Marvin Williams of Grove Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, claimed that he was proceeding north along Mandela Avenue when he observed the motorcycle proceeding south.

Williams said the motorcycle started to skid on its side and ended up in his path, resulting in the collision.

Emergency medical technicians were summoned to the scene and Blackett was pronounced dead. His body was transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home and is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The pillion rider was picked up in a conscious condition and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was treated and sent away.

A Notice of Intended Prosecution was served on the driver of motorcar. He was also subjected to a Breathalyzer test which showed no trace of alcohol in his system.

Further investigations are ongoing.
