Guyana U19 girls beat Barbados by 11 runs

Guyana girls got their first points of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 women’s 30-over tournament after beating Barbados by 11 wickets at Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground, St. Augustine yesterday.

The local girls posted 110 for six by the time their 30 overs expired and restricted Barbados to 99 for nine.

Guyana’s batting centered around Realeanna Grimmond who top scored with 39 from 68 balls. Grimmond struck two boundaries before being trapped leg before wicket to Barbados captain, Trishan Holder (1-7)

Grimmond was supported by Nya Latchman who finished on 26 not out from 57 balls. Extras accounted for 33 runs including 25 wides. Theanny Herbert-Mayers was the pick of the Bajan bowling attack, taking 3-9 including the wickets of Tilleya Madramootoo and Sarah Amin who were both dismissed for first-ball ducks. Her third victim was Naomi Barkoye who was bowled for two.

Holder returned with bat in hand looking set to chase down the target as she raced to 41 from 51 balls but after hitting four boundaries, she was bowled by Latchman. Guyana gifted 27 extras to bring the contest close but no other batter could reach double figures against the Guyanese bowlers.

Latchman capped off a decent match with bowling figures of 2-16 while Grimmond, Emlissa Whyte and Cyanna Retemiah picked up one wicket each.

Guyana will now face Leeward Islands on Sunday at the National Cricket Centre in round three.
