Publishing this photo reveals a lack of awareness of the gravity of these allegations

Dear Editor,

There was a recent post on Facebook by the Ministry of Education showing the embattled ex-Minister with Amerindian School girls and boys. It is quite insensitive under the current circumstances. The head of the Ministry was already mentioned in what insinuated enabling child abuse, and this recent post of an event in February was not very considerate of the current turmoil in the country over what allegedly happened to a young Amerindian girl.

For the head of the Ministry to then post this picture is a clear indication of a lack of understanding of the seriousness of these allegations, and it significantly damages the image of the Ministry of Education, which now appears insensitive, inconsiderate and reckless with the safety of vulnerable young children in the country. This brings to mind the fiasco that occurred prior to the 2015 election which the PPP lost. Comments made about the US and the US Ambassador Brendt Hardt during a farewell party that ended in boos directed towards the current Minister of Education was considered a serious misstep, and what was placed recently on social media given the current delicate situation in the country is also a sign of another unfortunate misstep by the Minister.

CRG recommends once again that this Minister also be placed on Administrative Leave so that she may reflect on her actions and the serious nature of the current situation. The perception of being uncaring and reckless with the safety of the nation’s children needs to be immediately corrected. Sensitivity training is needed and an official apology should be furnished by the Minister to the nation. Conduct that sparks further outrage over the alleged rape and sodomy of a young child should be avoided. It is very disappointing to see such a talented and dedicated individual carry out such a serious and insensitive action on social media.

Sincerely,
