Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill recently engaged with residents of Haslington, Grove and neighbouring communities on the expansion of the Railway Embankment and the East Coast Demerara Public Road.

According to a press release from the Department of Public Information, the meeting was held at the Guyana Women’s Leadership Institute at Cove and John. Along with the minister, the contracting company for the project China Railway First Group (Guyana) Incorporated and its engineering company Boston Consulting Incorporated also attended the meeting.

Phase two of the Public Road widening will be from Annandale to Mahaica and the Embankment road from Sheriff Street to Orange Nassau, the DPI noted. The project, valued US$192,318,924, is expected to be completed in 25 months

The release said residents were given the opportunity to ask questions about the projects and they were assured by Edghill that they would not be displaced. He also asked for their cooperation during the timeline of the project.
