There are still good serving policemen and women

Dear Editor,

The Guyana Police Force has become rotten to the core under the PPP. This is unacceptable. However, I wish to add that there are good policemen and women still serving and though the regime has a stranglehold over the GPF, those honourable, decent and upright law enforcers continue to strive to serve with dignity and integrity.

It is difficult, given the political culture of domination by the PPP, for good policing to be exercised at all times. Senior officers were strategically placed by the PPP to ensure that political orders and directives are adhered to and carried out. Yet, there are senior officers and junior ranks that are incorruptible. There are young policemen and women who joined the GPF to protect and serve. They are not interested in taking bribes, harassing innocent citizens, engaging in extrajudicial murders and framing citizens. We must recognise and acknowledge that they make up a part of the GPF.

Today, I want to extend my respect and appreciation to you and to let you know that there will be regime change and you will lead that law enforcement body and restore its overall integrity. These very sentiments apply to the Guyana Defence Force. I just thought that the Guyanese people should be made aware. Kudos to all the good policemen and women and good soldiers.

Sincerely,

Norman Browne
