St Ignatius, Santa Rosa, Tucville and Waramuri earned berths to the quarterfinals following lopsided wins yesterday in the round of 16 section in the 8th iteration of the Digicel Schools Football Championship.

Hosted at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, Region #9 winners, St. Ignatius, downed East Coast Demerara champions, Buxton 5-2. Akon Albert recorded a hat trick in the 32nd, 53rd, and 59th minute whilst Morgan Taruma and Romel Ernest scored in the 19th and 27th minute respectively. For the losing team, Andre Nelson and Omari Edwards scored in the 40th and 63rd minute respectively.

Similarly, Region #1 champions, Santa Rosa, defeated Region #10 winners Mackenzie High 5-2. Roy Van Sluytman tallied a hat trick in the 10th, 28th, and 78th minute, whilst Darius Williams registered a double in the 54th and 89th minute. For the loser, Mandela McRae and Azainneo Benjamin netted in the 50th and 57th minute respectively.

Likewise, Waramuri dismissed Kwakwani 4-1. Bruce Vincent recorded a double in the 24th and 63rd minute whilst Zundel Abrams and Lidell Boyal scored in the 15th and 43rd minute apiece. For the loser, Kelon Phillips scored in the 90th minute.

Meanwhile, Tucville downed Region #2 champion Charity 4-1. Dwayne Kellman bagged a brace in the 27th and 55th minute, whilst Tyrese Adams and Ryan Greene scored in the 23rd and 67th apiece. On target in the loss was Oundra Sobers in the 28th minute. The event continues today at the same venue with the other round of matches.
