Twenty-two-year-old Lemuel Dundas of Lot 105 Den Amstel, West Demerara, appeared yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and pleaded not guilty to three cybercrime charges.

It is alleged that on 9th May, at Stevedore Housing Scheme, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, the defendant, a butcher,  used a computer system to transmit electronic data that intimidated the virtual complainant.

It is also alleged that on 9th May, at Stevedore Housing Scheme,  the defendant used a computer system with intent to extort a benefit from the virtual complainant by threatening to publish electronic data containing personal or private information which could cause her public ridicule, contempt, hatred or embarrassment.

It is further alleged that on 9th May, at Stevedore Housing Scheme, the defendant intentionally and without lawful excuse or justification, acquired electronically a nude photograph and a video of the nude virtual complainant.

The prosecutor objected to bail because of the seriousness of the charge and the prevalence of the cybercrime cases. The fact that the defendant had nude images of several women in his personal phone with matters of a similar nature was also cited.

Bail was refused.

Dundas is expected to make his next court appearance on 14th August for statements.
