Teams express confidence ahead of Digicel Schools final

Captains of Carmel and St Ignatius Secondary Schools have expressed confidence of winning the final of the

Digicel Schools Football Championships scheduled to conclude tomorrow at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground.

According to St Ignatius captain, Reyes Williams, his team is prepared and confident of prevailing in the final, due to their style and overall talent.

Not to be outdone, Shem James, skipper of Carmel Secondary, said that his team was confident of securing the title, pointing out that the team is built on the premise of teamwork, as they respect the intricacies of the discipline.  

The sentiments were uttered at a pre-match press conference yesterday at Brandsville Hotel, Prashad Nagar, Campbellville. 

The final will take place tomorrow from 19:00hrs at the MOE ground. St Ignatius manager, Keiana Winter, said that the team has surpassed its previous performance of a semifinal berth, adding that she is grateful for the opportunity and platform that has been created by the Petra Organization and Digicel.

Carmel Manager, Donette Butters, said that the team has a recent history of top four finishes in respective events and said that the team’s appearance in the final of the prestigious Digicel Championship is very important, as it eradicates any misconceptions that are  associated with the community that the schools dwells in. 

Meanwhile, Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of the Petra Organization, said that event has produced several exhilarating encounters especially in the national championship segment.

“We expect no less from what we saw in the semifinal round.”

He added that an exciting finale is expected as both teams are first time finalists, which has highlighted the competitive nature of the championship.

Gabrielle Chapman, Communications Officer of Digicel, stated that the she is proud to be working for a company that is contributing to the development of youths, adding that the company is proud to the sponsor is the event, and will continue in such a manner.

She added that it was impossible to select a favourite team for the encounter as both teams have demonstrated exceptional quality throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, the DC Caesar Fox of Region #7 will oppose Region #1 unit Waramuri in the third place ‘hinterland derby’ from 17:00hrs.
