Antonio Headley, 20, appeared yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly where he was charged with robbery under arms.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, August 16, at Battery Road, Kingston, Georgetown, Headley while being armed with a knife, robbed Ricardo Boris of one Samsung Galaxy A03 cellular phone valued $35,000 and $10,000 cash.

The defendant pleaded guilty with explanation. He told the court that he did not rob anyone and it was his friend who did the robbery. “After I ask he for a drop and he rob the man, I told him to put me off at the corner, by the time I was walking just like that a car knock me down,” he told the court.

The court heard that on the day in question at about 16.30 hours, Boris was walking along Battery Road heading to the Marriott Hotel when he observed a man riding a bicycle with another male heading towards him. As the men approached the complainant, one of them  got off the cycle, grabbed him by his shirt collar and pointed a long knife to his abdomen while demanding that he hand over his cash and valuables.

The  accomplice also dismounted the bicycle and shoved his hands in the victim’s pants pockets and took the aforementioned cash and cellular phone. The robber in an effort to escape began  running towards the Kingston seawall while his accomplice got on the cycle and rode away in a western direction along Battery Road. Public- spirited persons in the vicinity who heard the victim shouting and running after the accused, managed to apprehend him.

He was later handed over to the police and a search was conducted of a bag he had in his possession and a long knife was discovered. He was then taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, treated for the injuries he suffered, and discharged. He was later contacted and arrested for being a part of the crime.

Bail was granted in the sum of $50,000.

He is scheduled to make his next court appearance on October 06.
