Hickerson wins tennis tournament in St Vincent and the Grenadines

Multi-talented athlete Zion Hickerson is the winner of the boys 10 years and under tournament at the inaugural Chatoyer’s Tennis Invitational 2023 event in St Vincent and Grenadines.

The eight-year-old Hickerson, of the Sheltez Tennis Club, won the boys 10 years and under tournament by defeating Tzuriel Percival of St. Kitts and Nevis in the final.

However, it was not smooth sailing for Hickerson, who is also a national table tennis player, as he needed a third-set tie-break in order to triumph.

 The match lasted over one hour and when it ended Hickerson, son of former national table tennis player Orin Hickerson, had defeated Percival [SKN] 2-4, 4-1, 10-8.

Meanwhile, Arian Shako also of the Sheltez Tennis Club reached the semifinals of the 10 years and Under girls division but lost out to Briella Lake (SKN) 1-4, 0-4

Hickerson and Shako also teamed up in the mixed doubles where they reached the semifinals of the 10 years and Under category before going down to Percival and Lake.

The tournament saw over 30 players from seven different countries participating.
