LAUDERHILL, Florida, CMC – Former Barbados and West Indies off-spin all-rounder Ashley Nurse slammed an explosive 24 not out and helped set the platform for a 24-run win for California Knights against New Jersey Tritons in the U.S. Masters T10 League yesterday in the United States.
Nurse opened the batting and struck two fours and two sixes from 10 balls and shared a dynamic, second-wicket stand with former India left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan to propel the Knights to 76 for one from their five overs after they were put in to bat in the rain-shortened match at the Central Broward Regional Park.
Pathan clobbered four fours and two sixes in the top score of 31 off 13 balls and put on 45 unbroken with Nurse to give the Knights a competitive total to defend a late start to the match due to the weather.
No one from the Tritons could match the brutality of Nurse and Pathan, but former Guyana and West Indies all-rounder Christopher Barnwell made 29, and they were restricted to 52 for three from their five overs with former Australia pacer Ben Laughlin taking two for seven from his allotted single over.
In the second match of the triple-header, none of the Caribbean players involved made a major impact, and Texas Chargers beat Atlanta Riders by 22 runs, and the story was the same in the final match of the day, when New York Warriors toppled Morrisville Unity by 33 runs.
Former Trinidad & Tobago and West Indies pacer Rayad Emrit conceded 37 in two wicket-less overs, and Chargers rode a top score of 53 off 22 balls from Australian Ben Dunk to post 124 for five from their 10 overs.
Former T&T and West Indies opener Lendl Simmons made only 16 and Emrit added three, Unity were undermined by a destructive spell of four for two in two overs from Pakistani Imran Khan Jr and were held to 102 for nine in 10 overs.
Former Barbados and West Indies left-hander Jonathan Carter was not out on two, former Jamaica and West Indies pacer Jerome Taylor did not bat, and former Trinidad & Tobago pacer Navin Stewart took took two for 21 from one over, and the Warriors posted 139 for six from their 10 overs after they chose to bat.
In reply, former Guyana batsman Jonathan Foo was not out on nine, Stewart did not bat, and Taylor took one for 17 from two overs, and Unity were restricted to 106 for three from their 10 overs.
