Man remanded over De Kinderen murder

Krisan Carew, aka `Chris Carew’, 29, of Lot 60 De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara, appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on August 20 before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul to answer to the charge of murder.

It is alleged that the defendant on June 26th at De Kinderen murdered Kerwayne Lindsford Duguid. Carew was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.  A police bulletin had been issued for Carew on June 29th.

The police in a statement had said that the fatal attack occurred at De Kinderen Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara between 3 am and 3:45 am on June 26. On June 25th, at around 10 pm, police said Duguid visited a home in the Scheme in search of a Venezuelan woman. Duguid was informed by the landlord that the woman was not at home. The landlord told the police that at about 3.30 am, he heard loud screams in his yard and upon enquiring he saw Duguid pulling the woman by her hair. At the same time, he told the police, one of the suspects (another female Venezuelan national) held on to Duguid’s waist from behind him. The landlord said he rushed to the area and saw Duguid and two of the suspects fighting in a drain.

One of the suspects, who had a knife in her hand, was stabbing at Duguid’s leg while a male Venezue-lan suspect was holding Duguid around his neck. Minutes later the third suspect appeared with a cutlass and began to chop Duguid about his body; one suspect was then heard asking for a rope. Another suspect reportedly tied Duguid’s legs with a cord which the suspects apparently secured from a clothes line, the police said.

Duguid’s body was later removed from the drain where injuries were seen, examined and documented, the police said. The body bore multiple chops to the head and a cord was seen tied around his legs and neck.
