Six arrested over killing of golf club guard

Police in Regional Division 4C, under the command of Superintendent Krishna Ramana, yesterday morning arrested six suspects in connection with the killing of Dalchand Dhanai, the security guard who was found dead on Thursday while on duty at the Lusignan Golf Club, East Coast Demerara.

A release from the police yesterday said that the six persons who were arrested and are in  custody assisting with the investigations are Heeralall Ramdan, called Ivan, 58, unemployed of Lusignan Pasture; Trevor Harold, called Dhal Pot, 43, of Lusignan Pasture; Ivor Heeralall, 29, a labourer of Lusignan Pasture; Anil Sugrim, 30, a labourer of Lusignan Pasture; Avinda Kishore, 28, a coach of Lusignan;  and Davindra Sugrim, called Poopie, 25 a labourer of Lusignan Pasture. Kishore is the stepson of the deceased.

Meanwhile, the police say that they also recovered the weeding machine and music (speaker) box that were stolen from the club.

Dhanai was found dead on the premises with his hands bound.

The police say that at about 6:20 am on Thursday, someone called the Vigilance Police Station and reported that a body was at Lusignan Golf Club.

The Police responded and found Dhanai, 57,  lying face down in the upper flat of the building in what appeared to be dried blood with injuries to his head. His hands were bound with shoelaces.

Ramana and a Team of Police officers and ranks from Division 4C on Thursday visited the home of Dhanai, where they met with the grieving wife, children, relatives and co-workers of the deceased.
