Abel hat-trick leads Airy Hall past Haslington All Stars

Airy Hall ascended to the top of the standings, whilst fellow undefeated outfit Buxton Stars was held to a stalemate when the East Coast Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League continued at the Buxton Community Centre ground.

Airy Hall dismantled Haslington All-Stars 4-1. Burly forward Eion Abel was the architect of the victory, as he recorded a hat-trick. However, it was Leroy Halley who slammed his effort into the far corner in the eighth minute to open the scoring for Airy Hall.

Abel then made presence felt, rifling a powerful shot from inside the area into the back of the net in the 24th minute to make it 2-0. Haslington eventually reduced the deficit in the 29th minute as Delroy Benjamin directed his strike into the roof of the net.

The conversion proved to be the only noteworthy moment for Haslington, as Abel recorded two unanswered goals following the resumption of play in the second period.

Abel slotted past the opposing goalkeeper from inside the area in the 55th minute to restore his side’s two goal advantage at 3-1, before completing the result in the 60th minute to seal his hat-trick with a clinical shot beyond the reach of the diving goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, home side Buxton Stars battled to a 1-1 draw with Mahaica Determinators. Deshawn McPherson recorded the only conversion of a physical first half in the 34th minute for the hosts, cutting in from the left side before uncorking a powerful right footed shot into the far corner.

Nonetheless, Mahaica was presented with the perfect opportunity to equalize after being awarded a penalty kick in the 87th minute. Tasked with the responsibility from the distance, Julius Hamilton made no mistake as he fired his effort beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.

The event continues today at the same venue with a lone fixture. At 19:00hrs, Victoria Scorpions will lock horns with Beterverwagting.
