Four Mahaica brothers charged with wounding fisherman

Four brothers: 29-year-old Omesh Persaud, 26-year-old Avidesh Persaud, 21-year-old Yogeshwar Persaud and 18-year-old Adesh Persaud, all of Lot 14 David Rose Housing Scheme, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara were yesterday charged with beating a fisherman.

The four accused appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court  yesterday before Magis-trate Alisha George where the charge was read to them.

They entered not guilty pleas to the charge that they wounded 34-year-old Sushil Nagasar, a fisherman of Mosquito Hall, East Coast Demerara.

Bail was granted in the sum of $250,000 for Omesh, Avidesh and Yogeshwar Persaud while $100,000 was set for Adesh Persaud.

They are expected to make their next court appearance on 28th November for statements.

CCTV footage captured the attack on Nagasar by four males with cutlasses.

It was reported that Nagasar was at a Chinese Restaurant at Unity Village on Monday night when the four suspects rushed into the restaurant, all armed with cutlasses and broadsided him several times about his body. He sustained wounds to his toes and hands. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted as a patient in a stable condition.

The beating of Nagasar went on for around 20 seconds as he shouted in agony until someone in the restaurant intervened and the attackers left.
