Three held after Grove drug raid

An intelligence-led Police operation was conducted between  8.50 pm and 10.40 pm on Wednesday on the public road at Grove, East Bank Demerara during which three persons were held.

A release from the police said that the operation was carried out in the vicinity of the Grove Police Station, during which a Toyota Premio motor car (PZZ 5392), which was proceeding North along the public road, was stopped and searched.

Romel Bollers, a 31-year-old mason of Brutus Street, Agricola, was the driver, while Evander Lewis, a 32-year-old mechanic of Kiskadee Drive, South Ruimveldt, was seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

Bollers and Lewis were told why they were stopped, after which the ranks searched them, and nothing illegal was found on their person. The ranks then searched the car and found several transparent bags on the back seat, which were examined and found to contain leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The driver and occupant were told of the offence, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Golden Grove Police Station, where the suspected cannabis was weighed, and it amounted to 150 grams.

Based on further information received, the ranks went to a house on the Grove Public Road, where contact was made with Latanya Reynolds, a 24-year-old vendor of the said address. Ranks carried out a search and found a plastic bag on a bench at the back of the yard. The bag contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

She was told of the offence, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Golden Grove Police Station, where the narcotic was weighed and amounted to 44.3 grams.

The motor car was impounded at the station. The three persons were all placed in custody pending further investigation and charges.
