Two women shot while trying to part fighting schoolgirls

A shooting that occurred on Thursday at about 6.45 pm on Freeman Street, East Ruimveldt, George-town has left two women injured with the suspect yet to be arrested.

The two victims each suffered a gunshot wound. The suspect was identified as Kennard Jabar (age, address and occupation unknown).

Investigations revealed that there was a fight between two 16-year-old school girls from the area. As the fight was taking place, the two women intervened and attempted to separate the girls in an effort to de-escalate the situation. According to eyewitnesses, it was at that point that the suspect who was at the scene drew a handgun from his waist and fired several shots in the direction of the two women. As a result, they both suffered a single gunshot to their right and left hands, respectively. It is unclear if the suspect is affiliated with any of the victims or the school girls.

After discharging the firearm, the suspect escaped on foot. The victims were immediately taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital by public-spirited citizens, where they were treated for their injuries and discharged in a stable condition.

It was reported that an unknown male who was in the suspect’s company retrieved the spent shells from the scene and escaped with them. Investigators plan to review footage of CCTV cameras observed in the area.
