A 31-year-old welder of Farm, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), died on Sunday night when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a truck two villages away.

Dewayne Harris was on his way to Parika when the accident occurred at Orangestein, EBE. His sister, Atoya told Stabroek News that on impact, her brother was flung into a trench, along with his bike.

She is not sure what time exactly the accident occurred but she received a call from her sister after 10 pm that he had been involved in an accident.

She was upset that “the onlookers had their phones out to video and take out pictures, but nobody rendered assistance. When the guys from Farm heard about the accident, they went and took him out.”

She learnt that when Harris, the father of a six-year-old and a 10-month-old, was pulled out of the trench, “they pressed his stomach and dirty water came out.”

She hurried to the Leonora Diagnostic Hospital where he was taken but when she got there he was already dead.

According to Atoya, at the time of the collision, the truck was turning into a yard where sand and loam are stockpiled.

A post-mortem examination will be performed on his remains tomorrow.
