Our growing indigent population

Dear Editor,

We born, we grow up, we work to pay taxes then we get old and are put out to pasture, literally. There is a classic example of  Donna lying at various spots on Avenue of the Republic (very fitting) old, worn out, dirty, abandoned, hopeless, clearly devoid of mental capacity that garners pride and dignity or Veronica along Regent Street; a maverick. (Or so many men waiting along the byways n highways for supper provided by other citizens). For Christ sake, what is the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security doing if they cannot provide basic needs such as public baths, a meal and at the very least, night shelters for its aged citizens? And where are the Churches on this stigma? How we treat our women folks especially – our mothers and grandmothers and sisters and aunts – tell a lot about us as a society.

Sincerely,
