First it was Janet Jagan, now it’s Ramotar’s turn

Dear Editor,

First it was Bharrat Jagdeo dissing the late Janet Jagan, now it’s Irfaan Ali dissing Donald Ramotar. Do these fellas realize that without the sacrifices of Janet and Donald they, Bharrat and Irfaan, would have been nobodies and nonentities? The stark reality is that their power and prestige are possible because of the yeoman work of people like Janet and Donald who maintained and sustained the PPP so that it could provide scope for the Bharrats and Irfaans. I know; I was an infinitesimal part of that journey of people who placed their lives on hold to uphold and advance the struggle against dictatorship and for fair and free elections that culminated in the watershed ‘92 elections, a struggle that Bharrat and Irfaan know nothing about. But it seems that the only way they can defend their decisions that are criticised by others is to descend into mud instead of dealing with issues – just issues!

Sincerely,

Annan Boodram
