Permaul, Imlach to lead Harpy Eagles side for Super50 tournament

The Guyana Cricket Board senior selection panel yesterday named the Guyana Harpy Eagles squad for the upcoming CG Insurance Regional Super50 competition with experienced left-arm orthodox spinner Veerasammy `Gunna’ Permaul and batsman Tevin Imlach the captain and vice-captain respectively. With longstanding captain, Leon Johnson retiring, Permaul will lead the team’s quest for a Super50 title triumph.

Permaul is no stranger to the role, having led the team over a decade ago while vice captain Imlach, led Demerara to victory in the just concluded senior Inter-County championships.

The tournament is scheduled to commence on October 17 in Trinidad and Tobago and according to the GCB, the team will play two practice matches prior to departure. The 14-man squad features just three changes from last season with Johnson, Anthony Bramble and Clinton Pestano making way for Kevlon Anderson, Ronsford Beaton and Sherfane Rutherford.

The squad also includes West Indies players Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Romario Shepherd, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford and Kevin Sinclair.

The hard hitting all-rounder from Essequibo, Quentin Sampson also makes the cut.

Veerasammy Permaul (Captain), Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Kemol Savory, Tevin Imlach (Vice-Captain), Kevlon Anderson, Shimron Hetmyer, Sherfane Rutherford, Kevin Sinclair, Gudakesh Motie, Ronsford Beaton, Nial Smith, Quentin Samson, Chandrapaul Hemraj and Romario Shepherd.

The management is made up of; Head coach – Ryan Hercules, Manager – Albert Clements, Assistant Coach -Garvin Nedd and Physiotherapist Angelica Holder.

The Harpy Eagles will play a practice match today at Georgetown Cricket Club and on Thursday at the National Stadium, Providence. 17 players have been named in the ‘Rest Team,’ with outstanding performers vying for places in the reserves.

Among them are Junior Sinclair who was named the Emerging Player of the Year in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League, Akshaya Persaud, Christopher Barnwell, Ronaldo Alimohamed, Antony Adams and Shamar Joseph, who all have Regional experience as well as West Indies under-19 prospects, Mavindra Dindyal and Isai Thorne.

Players such as Malcom Hubbard, Richie Looknauth, Neiland Cadogan, Steven Sankar, Raymond Perez, Carlos La Rose, Joshua Persaud, Rampertab Ramnauth and Nigel Deodat have also been named.
