The East Coast Demerara GT Beer 5/5 tapeball cricket competition was launched Saturday at the Enmore Community Centre ground.

The event, which is currently underway in the Essequibo zone, will afford the respective competing teams a roster of seven players. It will utilise a group stage format initially with the winners of the respective groups advancing to the elimination round, which comprises a quarter-final and semi-final section.

Speaking at the launch, which featured representatives of competing teams, GT Beer Brand Manager Dwayne Bristol stated that the aim of the event is to target the grassroots demographic of the sport, noting that the company has always been associated with the development of sports at this strata.

He added that a national playoff for the competition is currently being conceptualised for 2024.
