Britton, Edghill bow out of singles competition

Guyana’s Shemar Britton and Chelsea Edghill yesterday bowed out of the singles event at this year’s Pan American Games table tennis competition after losing their round of 32 encounters.

Competing at the Centrao de Entrenamiento Olimpico, Edghill lost 1-4 to Puerto Rico’s Daniel Gonzalez while Edghill lost 0-4 to Mexico’s Yadira Silva.

Britton lost 4-11, 8-11, 8-11, 11-6, 3-11 while Edghill lost 4-11, 6-11, 4-11 and 8-11.

Top seeds Hugo Calderano of Brazil and Adriana Diaz of Puerto Rico easily won their round of 32 matches yesterday with Calderano defeating Peru’s Carlos Fernandez 4-0 and Diaz defeating Colombia’s Cory Tellez 4-1.
