The Guyana Defence Force launched a staunch defence of their Lennox Blackmore National Intermediate championship winning five of their six bouts on Friday night at the national gymnasium.

However, the story of the night was the underdogs from the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF), especially Travis Inverary,  the light middleweight pugilist who began his campaign at this level with an emphatic victory over GDF’s Jamal Booker.

Inverary began the three-round bout cautiously with Booker mirroring his actions.

However as Inverary began his assault in the second round, Booker had no answer, sustaining sharp right crosses at regular intervals. To his credit, Booker withstood the blows but had no answer as Inverary ran roughshod over the GDF man.

At the end, Inverary’s arm was raised in triumph in a well-deserved points victory.

Additionally, FYF’s Septon Barton had a walk over in his lightweight quarterfinal.

Unfortunately, out of the seven bouts scheduled for the night three were walkovers.
