Hikers Mixed Hockey Festival set for triumphant return

The Hikers Demerara Mutual seven-a-side Mixed Hockey Festival will make a triumphant return next Monday at the Everest Sports Club ground.

This was confirmed by a release from the club yesterday. The event, which is in its third staging, feature nine teams battling in the one-day tournament.

According to the correspondence, “nine teams, generously sponsored by a diverse group of corporations, will converge for a one-day tournament.” Demerara Mutual takes pride in its place as the gold sponsor, while loyal partners Germans Restaurant, INET Communications Inc., and Jai Signs and Auto Designs make a triumphant return. “Additionally, we welcome new sponsors to the fold, including Cole’s Screen Printers, Dyrock Construction, Muse Sports Bar, Hoyte Logistics, Sensodyne and Brand It Apparel Company. The unwavering support of Ramesh Sunich’s Trophy Stall and Guinness as sponsors adds to the event’s success,” the organisers stated in the release.

Each team will have 10 players, with at least two females.

“Expect a thrilling and competitive tournament featuring national male and female players who have proudly represented Guyana at the highest levels of the sport. Their skills will be complemented by the energy of other enthusiastic players. This form of hockey fosters camaraderie among players who may not typically play together but must unite as a team to achieve success,” stated the release.

The event, which is sanctioned by the Guyana Hockey Board, is free to the public.
