Two men who pleaded not guilty to six counts of robbery were yesterday remanded to prison and will return to Court on December 6, 2023 for statements.

Orwin Garraway, 22, of 592 East Ruimveldt and Emmanuel Blair, 20, also of Lot 595 East Ruimveldt appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court  to answer to the six counts of robbery.

The Court heard that on October 24 2023 while in Georgetown, they robbed a CMC Security officer of a shotgun worth $250,000, one Chinese national of one cellphone valued $50,000 and Linden Lin of $800,000 dollars cash. On November 2, 2023 it is alleged that the duo robbed another Chinese national of $800,000 in cash and items totaling a value of 1 million dollars; they are also accused of robbing Clive Baird of one cellphone valued at $75,000. Both pleaded not guilty to all six charges.

The prosecution revealed to the Court that they are in possession of CCTV footage relative to the case. The court was further advised that Garraway has seven similar charges pending against him at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court while Blair is facing a number of charges. Blair told the Magistrate that he was shot in the leg and struck in the head by the police which caused him to suffer injuries. The prosecution explained that the police, in their bid to arrest Garraway, were forced to pursue him and as a result of an exchange between Garraway and the police Blair sustained injuries.

Blair also alleged that while under police escort, without restraints, they told them that they can run if they want; he also claimed that the police instructed them not to waste the court’s time and just plead guilty. The Magistrate, after hearing both sides of the arguments, refused bail applications on all case jackets.
