The Gokarn Ramdhani Memorial Tournament wrapped up on Saturday at the National Gymnasium and saw Priyanna Ramdhani and Akili Haynes prevailing in the finals of the Women and Men’s U-23 categories respectively.
Haynes’ performances throughout the tournament were consistent and impressive enough to land him the Most Outstanding Performance award.
Priyanna, whose father the tournament memorializes, faced Mishka Beharry in her final and found little to no opposition as she wrapped up the title in sets of 21-5 and 21-6. Meanwhile, Haynes came up against Tyrese Jeffrey in his final which was much more competitive than the Women’s title match.
Haynes won the 21-16 to take a comfortable lead, however, Jeffrey pushed back in the second set and took the game to deuce but could not overcome Haynes prowess as the latter won 23-21 to take the set and the game.
The Mixed Doubles category saw Wenyuan Chen and Anna Perreira taking on the pair of Avinash Odit and Mishka Beharry with the latter coming up trumps with relative ease. They won both sets 21-17 and 21-16 to lift the trophy in that category.
Priyanna, already a winner in the Women’s Category, teamed up with Ambika Ramraj in the Women’s Doubles final to add yet another accolade to her collection. Ramdhani and Ramraj easily overcame the pair of Ayanna Watson and Anna Perreira 21-8 and 21-14 in that final.
Haynes, just like Ramdhani also won the Men’s Doubles final, teaming up with his opponent from earlier, Jeffrey in a 21-12 and 24-22 sets win over Marlon Chung and Wenyuan Chen to lift that category trophy..
